Take a journey through time into the depths of the earth at the Goyet Caves

Ready for a spellbinding journey into our (very) distant past? A rare and protected underground heritage site, set in a 90-hectare limestone landscape, the Goyet caves are one of the most prestigious prehistoric sites in all of Europe. They are one of the few rare sites to have contained both Neanderthal and Homo sapiens fossils. A plethora of rare relics have been found here, including the oldest canine skull in the world known to date, as well as the burial site of a child aged around 12 years old dating from the Late Neolithic period. Add to that Belgium's most major works of prehistoric art. Discover this most extraordinary site at Flémalle's Préhistomuseum – Europe's largest prehistory museum.

You will be led through the stalagmites and draperies by a passionate archaeologist, on a fascinating multimedia and sensory experience that includes wall projections and audio soundscapes. The experience begins with an observation of the surrounding landscape, before continuing through the cave's seven galleries, where you will discover the history of the people and animals who once occupied this ancient site. Finally, your visit will conclude with the sounds of Goyet's prehistoric flute.
