Address :
Rue du Château, 6887 Herbeumont, Belgique
Description

Welcome to Herbeumont, in the heart of the Ardennes forests, a village that is both peaceful and touristy, at the top of which lie the ruins of a mediaeval fortified castle, offering a superb panoramic view over the Semois Valley.

Only the vestiges remain of this fortress that was once very powerful and is deemed inaccessible due to the natural escarpment of the mountain, bearing witness to its tumultuous past.  Built in 1268, it was occupied over the centuries by many illustrious family dynasties, before being destroyed by French troops in 1657.

Mediaeval heritage and a superb panoramic view

Perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the village and the Semois Valley, the Castle’s ruins have become an ideal spot for a walk that offers stunning vantage points over the surrounding area and the river’s twist and turns. Don’t forget to bring your walking shoes because around the castle and village there’s no less than 95 km of highly varied signposted walks awaiting you. It will be a pure pleasure discovering this superb region along the beautiful Semois River or through the heart of the forest… Look forward to a day’s escape and relaxation!
